Adult Family/Elder Decision Mediation. For many, this can provide an alternate dispute resolution to courts.  Mediators are neutral and the parties make their own decisions. This service is free of charge and provided by a trained mediation volunteer through WHCA’s Elder Services Navigator (listed below).

Support for seniors: The Elder Services Navigator works with seniors and/or their caregivers to help find resources and connect them with services & supports. No fees – MaineCare is not required. For more information contact WHCA.

A fee-for-service program available to seniors over 50 and people with disabilities. For $20 an hour, a handyman or housekeeper will come to your home and clean or make minor repairs. Fill out their home safety checklist here

Community resources for seniors in the Milbridge/Cherryfield and surrounding area including a Senior Companion Program. The Seacoast Mission also hosts free meals and events for seniors to participate in including Game Day, the Senior Café, and Table of Plenty (a Sunday community potluck meal).  The Mission also houses a food pantry and has a van that can deliver food pantry items to homebound seniors.  Email at

Sunrise Senior College: 255-1384
Sunrise Senior College (SSC) at the University of Maine, Machias, provides a curriculum of intellectually stimulating programs, practical knowledge, social interaction, and special activities for Washington County residents fifty years of age or older, and their spouses and/or partners. There are no tests or grades and no prior college education is required. Some classes are free to the public, some classes require a fee.
