Now you can have a free consultation with a lawyer face-to-face. The Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project is offering free legal advice every month at both the Machias and Calais courthouses on matters such as family law, debt collection, appeals for social security disability, child support, guardianship, etc…
In Machias a lawyer will be available on the first THURSDAY of the odd-numbered months (January, March, May, July, September, and November) from 1p – 4p.
In Calais a lawyer will be available on the first TUESDAY of the even-numbered months (February, April, June, August, October, and December) from 1p – 4p.
Lawyers will see people on those dates on a first come, first served basis. Anyone interested in the free consultation should go to the court clerk’s office.
